Statement During my 30s and 40s, I expressed through my artwork that while civilization has kept on developing and progressing, nature has been largely helpless. I desired to portray the constant interaction and conflicts that occur between nature and civilization in the name of progress. I feel deeply in my heart that now is the time that people should focus more on the development of compassion and love from within, rather than on the development of technology and other external forms of progress. I have nothing against the advancement of technology, but considering the costs of such progress on our planet in terms of the environment and the well-being of the people who live in it, it is perhaps more valuable to invest our time and energy in the cultivation of greater love and compassion for humanity and the planet. I view technology as a tool that is best served in the betterment of humanity and of our natural environments, rather than being used in a destructive or gratuitous manner. Because it is human nature to forget, I want to remind people how important and beautiful love truly is through my artwork. – Sungmo Cho | ![]() 2016 Solo Show's Postcard |
